Is it too early to decorate for Christmas?

If you’re excited about Christmas but feeling like it might be a tad early to dive into holiday decorating, don’t worry! You can start planning your festive décor now, while still keeping a cozy fall vibe going until it’s time for the full holiday switch.

Think about taking cues from nature and letting the seasons guide you. It’s easy to celebrate the warm colors of autumn while you’re setting the stage for your Christmas décor. Autumn hues and natural elements can set the tone beautifully for the winter and holiday season.

For those of us who just can’t wait to start the holiday cheer, here’s a few tips on balancing fall and winter decor!

Keep it Transitional

A smooth transition between fall and winter is key for holiday decorating. Blending the two seasons lets you keep that fall feel while easing in a few winter touches. Then, when Thanksgiving wraps up, you can jump right into all things Christmas!

Using both natural and neutral pieces works perfectly here—think winter greens, pinecones, berries, and twigs. These elements create warmth and a festive feel. A few battery-operated candles and twinkle lights add just the right glow for a cozy, welcoming space.

Lighting is Everything

Holiday lights don’t have to be saved for Christmas alone! White twinkle lights and candles can add warmth and a festive spirit for Thanksgiving and beyond. Try adding fairy lights for a little magic year-round; you can wrap them around indoor plants or place them inside a glass vase for a cozy touch.

And if you’re thinking about putting up lights outside, go for it before the chill sets in! Putting them up early can save you from a cold-weather struggle later on.

Use What You Have

With a short window between Thanksgiving and Christmas, you don’t need to run out and buy a ton of new decor. Look for neutral or natural items that fit both seasons, or check out your backyard for a few rustic elements. Repurpose wreaths and garlands, or use a bit of paint to freshen things up!

Or… Just Go For It!

If putting up your tree now brings you joy, there’s no reason to hold back! Dive into the season and enjoy it as long as you like.

How do you approach decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving? Do you wait or jump right in? What’s your in-between decorating style? I jump right in!! I keep my fall decor up, but also put up my tree. After Thanksgiving the pumpkins get stored and the snowmen appear.
