A Southport Address Doesn't Always Mean Downtown Southport

This is probably one of the biggest things relocation buyers need to understand.

When you picture Southport, you may be thinking about the waterfront, restaurants, shops, golf carts and historic homes around downtown. But a Southport address and the 28461 ZIP code cover much more than downtown Southport.

For example, Boiling Spring Lakes also has Southport mailing addresses. The area has a much more rural feel, with wooded properties, more breathing room and many homes that are not part of an HOA. That can be a great option for buyers who want to be in the Southport area but prefer more space or fewer community restrictions.

Then you have planned and gated communities, established neighborhoods, condos, newer developments and properties closer to downtown. Two homes can both say “Southport, NC” in an online search while offering completely different lifestyles.

That's why I spend time talking to relocation buyers about how they actually want to live before we concentrate on individual houses.

Do you want to be close to downtown Southport? Near Oak Island? In a community with amenities? Or would you rather have more land, fewer restrictions and a little more breathing room?

Finding the right part of Southport can be just as important as finding the right house.
